In February 2011, Social Business Trust chose Women Like Us for its very first investment. SBT is a partnership of world class businesses combining their resources and expertise to help accelerate the growth of social enterprises.
SBT is offering Women Like Us in-kind advisory support as well as financial investment. The support will help us to scale up our services, working towards a day when women are no longer disadvantaged at work simply because they have children.
Social Business Trust’s founding partners are Bain & Company, Clifford Chance, Credit Suisse, Ernst & Young, Permira and Thomson Reuters.
Together with the Centre for Economic and Social Inclusion, Women Like Us has commissioned a three year research project called Working Mothers. The project is kindly supported by the Big Lottery Fund. The aim of the research is to identify employment services needed by women returners, and the evidence will help commissioners and policy-makers to develop future services.
Women Like Us has also received three year funding from the Big Lottery Fund to develop the advice, support and recruitment service that we offer to employers, in order to stimulate the supply of quality part time vacancies in London. The funding will also enable us to scale up our ability to support more parents and carers into these vacancies.
Funders of our career support programmes
Through partnership with local, regional and national government agencies, Women Like Us provides careers advice and support free of charge to a range of women.
We deliver a range of welfare to work and employment and skills programmes for various stakeholders. We reach and support workless parents, predominantly lone and coupled mothers, helping them to access information, advice and guidance, career coaching and job brokerage. Our particular model, with its school gates outreach and parent centred approach, has been recommended by national government for rollout across the UK.
