Skills

The Government wants to improve skills training for adults. It recognises that needs vary widely for each individual, and that women can often have a more fragmented career pathway. Government policy therefore suggests making skills training responsive to the needs of different groups.

Women Like Us recommendations

  • Skills training to be made available on a part time basis, with childcare provision, to make it accessible to parents.
  • Greater integration of employment and skills support for all parents through the adult careers service, not just for those on benefits.
  • Mothers need specific support to overcome their barriers to going back to work. Combating lack of confidence is a major factor.
